Nindri Indri: Designing a Place Like Nowhere Else
In the hills of Prekmurje, a nature retreat brings private lodges, wellness and shared pleasures into a landscape made for slowing down.

Nindri Indri means “nowhere else” in the Prekmurje dialect. It is a fitting name for a retreat whose character begins with its surroundings: the unfolding hills, the meeting of cultivated land and woodland, and a regional culture expressed through food, wine and craft.
Now welcoming guests in Suhi Vrh, Slovenia, Nindri Indri brings private lodges, an infinity pool, wellness, a restaurant and wine cellar into one connected destination. Its appeal lies in the freedom to move between them—to spend time together, find a quiet corner, or withdraw into the privacy of your own lodge.
Working with investor Elproing, our team developed the original resort concept and masterplan under Glampro. Today, that work continues within Elemental Design Collective’s EDC Resorts, bringing together the team behind the project.

A retreat shaped by the hillside
The design began with the land.
The site opens towards the surrounding countryside like a natural amphitheatre. Its changing levels, long views and relationship with the woodland informed the arrangement of buildings, paths and outdoor spaces.
The masterplan placed the shared heart of the resort near the arrival point, with lodges stepping down the hillside. This creates a gradual transition from the welcome and activity of the main building to the quieter spaces of a private stay.
That sequence matters. Arriving, finding your bearings, discovering the view and reaching your terrace are all part of the experience. Our approach considered these moments together, allowing the landscape to guide both the layout and the rhythm of a visit.

Privacy with a sense of openness
A retreat should offer the feeling of being comfortably on your own, with room to look out, breathe and settle in.
Lodge positioning, terrace orientation and planting were considered together to create that balance. The landscape design uses vegetation to soften relationships between neighbouring spaces, screen selected sightlines and keep views open towards the countryside.
Paths connect the resort while allowing each lodge its own sense of arrival. Terraces extend the living space outdoors, and generous windows keep the landscape present inside.
This is where biophilic design becomes tangible: in daylight, natural materials, greenery and the ease of moving between shelter and open air. These everyday encounters give a stay its immersive quality.

Close to the elements
Water and wellbeing were part of the original concept from the outset.
Today, the infinity pool, wellness treatments and private saunas in selected lodges offer different ways to pause.
A swim beneath an open sky, the warmth of a sauna or an unhurried moment on a terrace can each become a small ritual within the day.
The design approach makes room for those experiences across the resort. Privacy, outlook, shade and the relationships between spaces all contribute to a setting where guests can choose their own pace.

A shared heart, rooted in Prekmurje
The restaurant, bar and wine cellar bring a different energy: the pleasure of gathering around a table.
The original concept positioned dining and its outdoor spaces at the centre of resort life, connected to the pool and the routes leading towards the lodges. This gives the retreat a social heart within easy reach of its quieter corners.
Nindri Indri’s hospitality adds another layer of connection through regional ingredients, local producers, wine and craft. These details carry the character of Prekmurje into the stay. Guests encounter the region through what they taste, touch and share, as well as through the view.

Designing the whole experience
Nindri Indri reflects the holistic approach we carry forward at EDC Resorts: shaping the resort concept, masterplan, architecture, landscape and accommodation around the experience of being there.
Behind that experience are practical decisions about arrival, service access, circulation and the relationship between private and shared spaces. Considering them together helps the destination feel intuitive for guests and supports the people who operate it.
The ambition is a place with its own rhythm. Somewhere guests can feel close to nature, connected to the region and free to spend their time as they choose.
Nowhere else. A place of its own.
